National and International Initiatives
Globally, Western has provided significant support to people in need, for example:
- Fort McMurray Wildfires fundraiser raised $22,182 comprising employee donations along with Western and Federal Government matching funds.
- Fire Trucks Without Borders and Western Stevedoring shipped numerous fire trucks and container loads of fire-fighting equipment to Nicaragua and El Salvador to benefit small towns without emergency response trucks or equipment.
- Western has supported our parent company’s initiatives to set up the Harbour Workers Relief Fund to benefit waterfront workers in the Gulf affected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
- Western responded to a call for support from Hoops 4 Hope by donating a container to transport donations of sneakers, basketballs and other items to Africa. Since 1995, this global not-for-profit organization has been supporting youth development throughout southern Africa. The group teaches children life skills through sports and mentorship, and helps bring people of all races and cultures together in fun, collaborative and competitive ways.
Along with our core value of safety, we are also passionate about protecting the environment in the communities where we work especially since these are the communities where our employees live and work.
